           Cattaraugus Village isn't really on the way to anyplace.  It is in on the side of a valley in the foothills of the Allegany Mountain Range.  Even if you lived in Western New York, this is a Village you probably never visited.  This has been an asset, historically, keeping unbridled modernization at bay and keeping a lid on its real estate prices.

           On January 22, 2014 the application submitted by the Historic Cattaraugus Corporation was approved, placing the entire downtown business district of Cattaraugus Village (consisting of 19 commercial buildings) into the listing of  The National Register of Historic Places. http://www.nps.gov/nr/feature/places/13001113.htm

           The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the Nation's historic places worthy of preservation.    Authorized by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the National Park Service's National Register of Historic Places is part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect America's historic and archeological resources.
